You are probably wondering "What is a Precomp Swim Team?" Answer a group of swimmers ages 4-10 that are learning basic swimming skills. In this group Swim Meets are not required. The name precomp means precompitition or in other words racing not required.
What is the purpose of a precomp swim team? To teach kids basic swimming skills that are needed to be on a swim team.
About Precomp: precomp is basically a 2 hour swim lesson that has games and other swimming skills being taught. We swim for about 15 minutes and then we play a 5-10 min game that practices a skill we learned with out the kids realizing it.
- A good example is a game called Sharks and Menows, in this game their are sharks the sharks try and tag the menows, when a menow is taged they become another shark. This sounds like a big game of "Tag" and the kids love it. What we don't tell the kids is that it is working on breath control and swimming under water. In order not to be taged the swimmers that are menows must be under water if their head comes out of the water they can be taged.
- Another example is using a dive stick, this doesn't sound like it is teaching them alot but it actually is. The swimmers throw the dive stick and retrieve it in the water ranging any were from 1 inch water all the way out to 10 feet, they are learning how to run/dive and how to pick up objects that are in the water.
